In times gone by, if you wanted to drive around in an armored vehicle, you had to accept something that looked like a tank and attracted far more attention than a discerning owner would have liked.
Today, discreet protection is part of the luxury brief. It is now possible to be chauffeured in a strengthened BMW 7-Series that appears completely ordinary, yet can withstand gunfire and small explosions.
Inkas is the company behind this new armored 7-Series. The luxury sedan has been upgraded to the BR6 ballistics standard, meaning it can stop high-velocity rifle fire from weapons such as an AK-47 and other military and assault rifles.
This Bimmer will also withstand the blast from a hand grenade, which is not something most executive saloons list in the brochure.
The armoring experts have upgraded the BMW’s entire passenger cabin in BR6-level armor, while also adding military-grade ballistic glass and an armored door overlap system. The battery and ECM also have their own armor to protect them from bullets and explosives, while a system of military-grade runflat tires has been installed. The fuel tank is also enclosed in armor.

Owners looking for the ultimate armored 7-Series can also opt for enhanced armoring throughout the engine bay, a fire suppression system, and an escape hatch in the roof. It can also be equipped with a night vision camera, a CCTV system, LED strobe lights, heavy-duty wheels, an oxygen filtration system, and reinforced front and rear bumpers.
Inkas, based in Canada, hasn’t revealed how much weight all that armor adds to the 7-Series, though it is safe to assume it is carrying a fair bit more mass than the standard car. Thankfully, it starts life as the range-topping 760i, which means a 4.4-liter twin-turbo V8 with 536 hp sits under the hood, giving it more than enough grunt, regardless of how heavy it may be.
Then there is the discretion. Depending on the options box you tick, the armored 7-Series can look almost indistinguishable from a regular example, aside from small red and blue flashing lights integrated into the front bumper.
