• American Honda saw a slight overall sales increase last month.
  • Honda sales slipped a bit, while Acura posted solid gains.
  • Prelude deliveries continue to rise after a cautious launch.

The $42,000 Honda Prelude got off to a slow start, but momentum has quietly been building, despite even as some opportunistic dealers try to cash in with steep markups. This helped to push February sales up 38.4% from January, despite fewer selling days.

Before you get too excited, Honda only sold 299 Preludes last month. That’s a notable improvement from the 216 sold in January and the 174 sold in December. It’s also worth noting the hybrid coupe outsold the BRZ last month as Subaru dealers only managed to move 277 units.

That’s a small victory, but the Prelude is barely a blip on the radar as Honda sold a total of 97,226 vehicles last month. That was a slight 0.5% decline from last year and results were mixed.

The redesigned Passport continues to be popular and sales jumped 35.7% last month to 4,746 units. The facelifted Pilot saw a 2.5% increase, while the Ridgeline popped 22.2%. Other winners included the Accord (23.1%) and CR-V (3.8%).

On the flip side, the Prologue EV continues to feel the fallout from the elimination of federal tax credits. Deliveries plunged 63.6% and they’re down 74.1% year-to-date.

The HR-V and Odyssey also had a rough month as sales fell 26% and 13.2%, respectively. Both models are also down year to date, so this isn’t too much of a surprise.

Acura Sales Jumped, But Trouble Is On The Horizon

Honda Prelude Sales Jump 38% As It Outsells Subaru BRZ

Acura sales climbed 17.3% to 10,936 units, thanks to strong sales of the entry-level ADX. The crossover has quickly established itself as the brand’s second best-selling model behind the MDX.

While sales are up, Acura has a surprising number of zombies in its lineup. The TLX and ZDX are toast, but dealers still managed to sell 367 units. They’ll soon be joined by the RDX, which is going out of production later this year.

The model will reportedly return in 2028 and Acura has already confirmed it will have a hybrid powertrain. However, its temporary hiatus will leave a huge gap in the lineup.
