- Ford has begun accepting orders for the Mustang Dark Horse SC.
- Model sports a supercharged 5.2-liter V8 developing 795 hp.
- Pricing starts at $108,485 including destination and gas guzzler tax.
When Ford unveiled the Mustang Dark Horse SC earlier this year, they were tight-lipped on performance specifications. The company has now spilled the beans by revealing the supercharged 5.2-liter V8 engine produces 795 hp and 660 lb-ft of torque.
That puts it just shy of the flagship Mustang GTD, which is rated at 815 hp and 664 lb-ft. However, it easily beats the standard Dark Horse’s naturally aspirated 5.0-liter V8 developing 500 hp and 418 lb-ft. We’ll save you the math and note that’s an increase of 295 hp and 242 lb-ft. It’s also more than twice the output of a 388 hp Porsche 911 Carrera.

That’s impressive and the engine enables the Mustang to out power the dearly departed 717 hp Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat. However, it trails the old 797 hp SRT Hellcat Redeye, 807 hp SRT Super Stock and SRT Hellcat Redeye Jailbreak, as well as the 1,025 hp SRT Demon 170. That being said, its closest competitor these days is the 550 hp Charger Scat Pack, although that will likely change in the future.
It’s also worth noting the Dark Horse SC blows past the old Chevrolet Camaro ZL1, which had a supercharged 6.2-liter V8 developing 650 hp and 650 lb-ft of torque. The pricey pony car is now firmly in Corvette territory as it effectively slots between the 721 hp Grand Sport X and 1,064 hp ZR1 in terms of performance.
Despite this, the Dark Horse SC is a relative bargain as pricing starts at $108,485 – including destination and a gas guzzler tax. However, you’ll have to shell out $144,985 to get the Track Pack variant. The latter includes a host of upgrades including Brembo carbon-ceramic brakes, a rear seat delete, and 20-inch carbon fiber wheels wrapped in Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 R tires.
Ford is currently accepting orders and all models are equipped with a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission as well as an aluminum hood with a carbon fiber vent. They’re joined by a unique front fascia, a MagneRide suspension, and a D-shaped steering wheel.
