• Jeep and Marvel’s partnership will extend beyond the Wrangler A250.
  • Brand will promote Avengers: Doomsday, but won’t say if they’re in it.
  • 1970’s Super Jeep helped to influence the design of the new special edition.

During the glory days of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, automotive product placement was huge. Audi has closely been associated with the franchise as their vehicles have appeared in all three Iron Man movies as well as in Captain America: Civil War, Spider-Man: Homecoming, Avengers: Age of Ultron, and Avengers: Endgame.

However, they’re not alone as Acura played a role in Thor and The Avengers. Lexus even got in on the action as an LC was featured in Black Panther.

This makes Jeep’s partnership with Marvel intriguing as the companies have already confirmed plans for a co-branded marketing campaign to support the release of Avengers: Doomsday on December 18.

During a media briefing earlier today, we asked Stellantis global chief marketing officer Olivier François if Jeep vehicles would be featured in the upcoming blockbuster. Given Marvel’s notorious secrecy, he was tight-lipped and suggested we’ll have to wait and see.

That’s to be expected as little is known about the movie other than it will bring back stars Robert Downey Jr. and Chris Evans. They’ll be joined by a host of other familiar faces including Chris Hemsworth, Paul Rudd, and Anthony Mackie as well as classic X-men actors and superheroes from newer releases.

While François was coy about Jeep’s possible role in the film, he noted the off-road brand isn’t a stranger to movies as the Wrangler famously starred in Jurassic Park. The brand has leaned into this in the past as they’ve previously launched marketing campaigns in support of Jurassic World Rebirth and Jurassic World Dominion.

Getting back to Marvel, François revealed the automaker has been thinking about a Captain America tie-up for years, but wasn’t sure the comic book company would go for it. However, the timing worked out perfectly for a collaboration.

Jeep and Captain America are celebrating their 85th anniversary this year and both are seen as patriotic. The latter theme ties into America’s 250th birthday, which François called a “huge cultural moment.” On top of this, Avengers: Doomsday is coming out later this year.

A Classic Jeep Helped Influence The New Wrangler A250

Putting the Marvel partnership aside, Jeep’s global head of design, Vince Galante, talked a little more about the Wrangler America250 Edition. He noted the model drew inspiration from the country’s bicentennial in 1976 as well as the Super Jeep packages from the 1970’s.

The connection to the latter is unmistakable as the classic off-roader had flowing red and blue stripes, which resembled a flag blowing in the wind. The design is echoed in a more restrained way on the A250, which sports U-shaped blue and red hood decals as well as stripes down the side.

Galante added the special edition took roughly a year and a half to create and this was largely due to the unique Jean Blue soft top. Since it’s all-new, the roof had to be subjected to durability testing to ensure everything was up to snuff.

The designer went on to note the company is exploring new colors and materials for its vehicles. This is great news as they’ve been knocking it out of the park with instant classics like the Jean Blue seats in the A250 and Rockslide as well as the plaid interior in the 85th Anniversary Edition.
