- Airstream and Pininfarina have entered into a new design partnership.
- Collab will result in a “conscious and careful evolution” of Airstream.
- Move is billed as a “new chapter,” ahead of Airstream’s 100th anniversary.
A few years after teaming up with Studio F.A. Porsche, Airstream has announced a new design partnership with Pininfarina. It promises to combine the best elements of Italian design with an American icon.
Announced during Monterey Car Week, the partnership is set to usher in a “new chapter” for Airstream. Details are limited, but the companies will “explore how to translate Airstream’s design language into a new luxury experience while preserving the brand’s identity as a symbol of craftsmanship, curiosity and the freedom to explore.”

That’s not a lot to go on, but we can expect to learn more in the coming months. Airstream also noted the reinvention comes shortly before their 100th anniversary in 2031.
In a short clip announcing the partnership, Airstream CEO Bob Wheeler said Pininfarina was one of the first companies they considered when thinking about redesigning their lineup. He went on to note their long history with Italian automotive brands such as Alfa Romeo, Maserati, and Ferrari.
While the partnership was just announced, Pininfarina designers have already traveled to the United States to explore Airstream facilities and get a better idea of their history and products. Wheeler suggested this will eventually result in a “conscious and careful evolution” of the brand.
It remains unclear what the future holds, but it sounds like Airstream wants to retain their classic identity that is built around riveted aluminum travel trailers with a rounded design. However, the company wants to update the look and presumably make them feel more modern.
Only time will tell how successful the latest collaboration is, but Airstream has a long history of partnerships. Among the various tie-ups over the years are trailers created with Pottery Barn, REI, Stetson, and the Frank Lloyd Wright Foundation.
