Eager to promote its new compact crossover, Jaguar decided to perform a rrecord-breaking barrel roll at the launch of the E-Pace earlier this month.

Such a stunt serves absolutely no purpose in promoting the vehicle’s driving capabilities, but it raised eyebrows and created many headlines, which is just what Jaguar wanted for the presentation of its new SUV. But how was the stunt performed so flawlessly?

A new video from the company shows the lengthy preparations the automaker went to in ensuring the stunt could be safely achieved with a stunt driver behind the wheel.

To do so, Jaguar started testing a fully-autonomous E-Pace prototype and sending it off the jump and into a huge inflatable cushion before stunt driver Terry Grant took up the controls in later attempts.

Deliveries of the E-Pace will start before the end of the year. Perhaps a warning label telling owners not to try and imitate Jaguar’s barrel roll should also come as standard…
