• Gunther Werks revealed its most exclusive 911-based creation at Monterey Car Week.
  • The GWX features a 4.0-liter naturally aspirated flat-six producing 440 hp and 320 lb-ft.
  • Virtually every exterior panel is new and crafted from carbon fiber for reduced weight.

Rare and meticulously built, every restomodded Porsche 911 from Gunther Werks is a collector’s item. Now, the company has pushed its ambitions even further with the GWX, its most exclusive model yet. Introduced at Monterey Car Week, the GWX is positioned at the very top of Gunther Werks’ lineup. Only three will be made, and each will be offered by invitation only.

Like other models from Gunther Werks, the GWX is based on the 993, but now features the firm’s latest and greatest engine. This is a 4.0-liter naturally-aspirated flat-six delivering 440 hp and 320 lb-ft (434 Nm) of torque. To improve the throttle response, sliding throttle body plates have been fitted.

All-Carbon Bodywork

Then there’s the design. All Gunther Werks projects have truly sensational designs, and the GWX is no exception. In fact, it might just be the best-looking car the Californian firm has built. Virtually every piece of the exterior is all-new, and every single panel is made from carbon fiber. This includes the flared front fenders, custom side skirts, new rear quarter panels, and the hood.

Further setting the GWX apart are the race-inspired upgrades, including a distinctive front bumper, a unique rear bumper and diffuser, and a prominent rear wing with a ram air scoop integrated into the decklid.

Signature Details

The GWX presented is known as the Alpha Spec and is finished in a special shade of Candy Purple that Gunther Werks developed in-house. It also includes silver pinstriping and several exposed herringbone carbon fiber elements across the exterior, including on the hood and roof.

There’s plenty going on in the cabin, too. Key highlights include carbon fiber-backed bucket seats clad in black and white leather, a gorgeous Alcantara three-spoke steering wheel, an overhauled carbon fiber dashboard, and a Porsche Classic stereo system. The firm has provided few details about the options available, but presumably, shoppers will be able to personalize virtually every single element of the car.

Our new GWX takes all we have learned with remastering the Porsche 911 platform and pushes it even further,” company chief executive and founder Peter Nam said. “We are extremely excited to offer this pinnacle of performance to our most loyal customers and continue to showcase our technical prowess with our newest offerings.”

Pricing details haven’t been disclosed, but with only three examples set to exist, it’s safe to assume the GWX will come at a considerable premium.
