- Cat revealed a one-off pickup based on Ford Super Duty.
- It adds off-road gear and CAT yellow construction style.
- The cabin runs VisionLink with Caterpillar AI assistant.
In the world of construction and mining equipment, Caterpillar is an absolute juggernaut. It is the kind of name usually associated with towering machines and earth-moving power, not consumer vehicles. Given that expertise, it might seem logical for the company to branch out into building something for everyday buyers. Now it has, in a sense.

The spark for this project arrived in late 2024, when AI-generated images of a Cat-branded pickup truck started doing the rounds online. Caterpillar later admitted the idea stuck in its head, enough that it decided to build a truck of its own. The catch is that it is based on an existing Ford rather than something entirely new.
Unfortunately, Caterpillar says the result is a one-off, which means the chances of actually buying one are somewhere between slim and nonexistent.
Unveiled at CONEXPO-CON/AGG 2026, a major event for equipment producers, the aptly named Cat Truck is built around a Ford Super Duty. While that foundation may feel a little predictable, Caterpillar has still managed to give the truck a distinct look that fits with the brand’s identity.
The Super Duty’s original headlights have been retained, but Cat has developed a new blacked-out grille and bumper for it, complete with bright yellow tow hitches. The hood has also been replaced with a far more striking one, and squared-off wheel arches have been added.
A Ford, But Different
Several additional accessories complete the exterior makeover. The truck receives new side steps and a unique set of wheels wrapped in mud-terrain tires. Caterpillar also applied a yellow-and-black livery that mirrors the look of its heavy machinery. There is even a roof-mounted drone that can be deployed from the truck, similar to systems already appearing in some vehicles sold in China.
Few details have been shared about the cabin of the Cat Truck, other than the fact that it’s been equipped with the company’s VisionLink Productivity infotainment system with the CAT AI Assistant, which could remove some of the stress from working at a busy building site.
There is little doubt Caterpillar has the expertise needed to build a capable heavy-duty pickup. Turning that knowledge into a production vehicle that competes with established trucks, however, would be a far more complex undertaking. For now, the company appears content with this single example, and there are no indications that more will follow.
