• Spy photographers have snapped the Genesis G80 Hybrid.
  • Debuts later this year with RWD and a 2.5-liter turbo engine.
  • It’ll likely mimic the Hyundai Palisade and Kia Telluride hybrids.

Last fall, Genesis revealed plans to expand their lineup to include hybrid, electric, and range-extended vehicles. The first hybrid will arrive later this year and spy photographers have now snapped a prototype undergoing cold weather testing.

Based on the G80, the model is heavily disguised and this suggests the hybrid powertrain will be accompanied by some styling updates. Details are hard to make out, but it appears the car has a new front bumper with revised air intakes.

It remains unclear if the changes will be limited to the hybrid variant, but the luxury sedan was given a mild refresh in 2024. As part of the makeover, the model was equipped with revised fascias, updated wheels, and new Micro Lens Array LED headlights. The upgrades continued inside with a new dashboard, a revamped center console, updated switchgear, and a 27-inch OLED display.

Styling aside, the big news resides under the hood. Details are limited, but Hyundai and Genesis have already confirmed plans to introduce a 2.5-liter turbo hybrid system for rear-wheel drive models in 2026.

The companies have previously said their next-generation hybrid system features a new transmission with two integrated electric motors. One handles starting, energy generation and propulsion assist, while the other is tasked with propulsion and regenerative braking. This combination “improves power, performance, and fuel efficiency while achieving smooth shifting and reduced noise and vibrations for a more refined driving experience.”

In the Palisade, the hybrid powertrain produces 329 hp (246 kW / 334 PS) and 339 lb-ft (460 Nm) of torque. It combines a turbocharged 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine with a 1.65 kWh lithium-ion battery pack, a six-speed automatic transmission, and two electric motors.

The G80 Hybrid will likely be similar, although we can expect to learn more later this year.
