Porsche is believed to be hard at work on an all-new 911 GT2 RS, designed as the ultimate version of the 992.2-generation car. However, the German brand isn’t the only company working to take the 911 to new heights.
SSR Performance has spent the better part of two years working to create the 911 to a new level. Like Manthey Racing, it already offers a custom-designed aero kit for the track-focused GT3 RS and has begun teasing its latest creation, known as Project Leo.

The German firm refers to Project Leo as a “complete, clean-sheet vehicle development,” rather than simply being a modification or tuning package. It’s being conceived as a track monster and is believed to be based on the GT3 RS, except it’s hiding something very exciting beneath the bodywork.
A GT3 RS, With A Twist
It’s understood that SSR Performance has equipped Porsche’s flat-six with two turbochargers, as evidenced by prototypes that have been spied testing at the Nurburgring with a much more muffled sound than the screaming GT3 and GT3 RS. For what the car may lack in an intoxicating soundtrack, it will more than make up for it with sheer performance. According to reports, Project Leo could have upwards of 800 hp.
In a recent teaser for the car, SSR Performance has begun detailing its development and hinted at a sub-7-minute lap at the Nurburgring Nordschleife. Visually, the car has many familiar parts, including a similar rear wing to the GT3 RS, as well as aero covers that look like those offered by Manthey.
The firm appears particularly proud of the fact that the car won’t feature any kind of electrification, nor will it even have particulate filters, ensuring the engine can breathe as well as possible. There are some reports claiming that the new 911 GT2 RS from Porsche will be hybridized, so SSR’s rival could prove to be the perfect alternative.
