• This rare Spyker is one of only two finished in a shade of red.
  • Originally a Spyder, it was later converted into a Laviolette coupe.
  • A 4.2-liter naturally aspirated V8 sends 400 hp to the rear wheels.

After going belly-up several years ago, Spyker is about to make a comeback, gearing up to revive the Preliator with a twin-turbocharged V8. Perhaps in part due to renewed interest and publicity about the brand, a particularly stunning example has just been sold for $670,000 in the US.

As far as classic Spyker models go, it’s hard to find one more spectacular than this. It’s a 2006 C8 Laviolette and was sold out of Scottsdale, Arizona, with just 2,100 miles (3,379 km) on the odometer. Painted in a bright shade of red, it is one of just two Spykers ever painted in this color.

The Bring a Trailer listing notes that the car was originally built as a Spyder. However, it was converted by Spyker into a Laviolette coupe in Florida back in 2007. The car is completely original, other than being updated with the four-spoke propeller steering wheel of later C8 models and LED taillights, both fitted by pre-eminent Spyker expert Jasper den Dopper.

The exterior appears faultless, and the red paint is beautifully contrasted by the chrome 19-inch wheels, chrome accents on the side air intakes, and brushed silver pillars and roof scoop. Except for Pagani, no niche carmaker has created interiors that look as intricate as those from Spyker, and trimmed in beige leather, the interior of this C8 is particularly striking.

V8 Power

In terms of power, the C8 Laviolette uses a mid-mounted 4.2-liter Audi V8 with 400 hp and 354 lb-ft (480 Nm) of torque. This engine was removed in 2025 as part of a major service and is coupled to a six-speed manual transmission driving the rear wheels. While you can certainly get a lot more power for the money, it’s not easy to find a car that combines performance with style quite like this.
