- Chevrolet is aiming to set a new production car record at Pikes Peak.
- Corvette ZR1X will attempt to complete the course in less than 9:53.
- All-wheel drive supercar has a combined output of 1,250 hp.
The Corvette ZR1X is a beast and it has a new record in its sights. This weekend, the 1,250 hp (932 kW / 1,267 PS) supercar is aiming to become the fastest production model at the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb.
As part of the attempt, JR Hildebrand will slide behind the wheel of a 2027 Chevrolet Corvette ZR1X and race up the 12.42 mile (20 km) long course. It has 156 corners and an elevation gain of 4,725 feet (1,440 meters).

That’s a lot, especially when you consider Chevrolet will attempt to do this in less than 9 minutes and 53 seconds. As Hildebrand explained, “Our goal is very simple, which is to be the fastest production car ever at Pikes Peak of any kind. 9:53 is the outright fastest production record of any kind — that’s definitely the number that we are unquestionably here to top. My goal is to lay down a heater that will be hard for anybody else to come after anytime soon.”

The model will be competing in the hybrid production class and will be using a stock exhaust as well as Michelin Cup 2R tires from the ZTK Performance Package. Hildebrand billed it as showing up with a “car that you could literally go walk down to a Chevy dealership and buy.” However, there are some minor changes to comply with racing regulations.
While the tiny, low-res pictures don’t do the car justice, the ZR1X has a 5.5-liter V8 engine that is accompanied by a front-mounted electric motor. This setup gives the model all-wheel drive as well as a ridiculous 0-60 mph (0-96 km/h) time of 1.89 seconds when equipped with the ZTK Performance Package.
