BMW Presents The Hommage 2002 Concept At Goodwood

BMW is obviously inspired from its rich past and it shows in what it rolls out.

Take the M2, for instance, the indirect successor to the 1-Series M Coupe. Its bloated wheel arches are clearly a nod to the E30 M3, while its spirit (and turbocharged 3.0-liter inline-six) cradles back to the original 2002 tii Turbo. But in celebration of both its 100th birthday and the 2002 Turbo’s 50th anniversary, BMW really took the M2 to its roots, with the 2002 Hommage Concept.

Presented at this year’s Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este, the stunning, low slung study is based on the M2 Coupe but borrows a plethora of styling traits from the original 2002. BMW aficionados will quickly recognize some particular features, including the single headlights with “eyebrow” turning signals, the ducktail spoiler or the slanted shark nose (among many others).

But just in case someone might’ve missed the finer details, the 2002 Hommage Concept was presented at Goodwood with a uniform livery that resembles the original’s BMW Motorsport livery. Compared to the variant showcased at the Concorso d’Eleganza, which adopted the iconic three-colored livery and “turbo” lettering only on the concept’s deep front apron, the new one embellishes and adorns the sides and the spoiler as well.

Presumably, the M2’s 370 PS (365 HP) and 465 Nm (343 lb-ft) of torque output hasn’t been altered in anyway, albeit its weight might have been reduced.
