Euro NCAP have published the results from their latest crash test session, which has seen four vehicles from different segments score the maximum five-star safety rating.

Awarded with top honors by Europe’s safety specialists after being tested in the Frontal Offset Deformable Barrier, Frontal Full Width, Lateral Impact and Whiplash Rear Impact, the redesigned Renault Scenic has gathered 34.5 points or 90 percent in Adult Occupant.

Dummy readings have piled up to 82 percent for Child Occupant, 67 percent for Pedestrian and 59 percent in the Safety Assist category. The tested model was a five-seater 1.5 dCi weighing 1,517 kg (3,344 lbs), but the scores apply to all Scenics, including the seven-seater Grand Scenic.

Introduced earlier this year on the European market, the Subaru Levorg did slightly better over the French model, with 92 percent for Adult Occupant, 83 percent for Child Occupant, 75 percent in the Pedestrian test and 68 percent in the Safety Assist, proving that it’s worthy of the five stars.

When tested with the optional Safety Sense package, the 2016 Toyota Hilux is also a five-star vehicle, but take the bundle of safety features away and go for the standard model and you’ll probably be surprised to learn that the pickup truck loses two stars on the way.

A similar scenario has been highlighted on the 2016 Kia Niro as well, as the version equipped with the Advanced Driving Assistance Pack has scored a maximum five-star safety rating, while readings from the standard one have gathered up to just four stars.
