Chevrolet announced that the County of Ventura (California) is one of the first fleets to take delivery of the 2015 Tahoe PPV, which will soon be used by the county sheriff’s department while on patrol.

The County of Ventura wants its entire patrol fleet to be made up of Tahoe PPVs, which will gradually replace its existing Ford Crown Victorias and Dodge Chargers. By the end of this year their fleet of Tahoe PPVs will reach 25 units, with more to arrive in 2015.

But what is it with the 2015 Tahoe PPV that made County of Ventura police officers want it so bad? In their own words, “the visibility from the vehicle allows deputies to better spot incidents and react faster.” Furthermore, “the safety and ergonomics of the 2015 Chevrolet Tahoe PPV are the key reasons for the sheriff’s department and our fleet operations team choosing this vehicle to replace their current patrol vehicles,” said Peter Bednar, County of Ventura Fleet Operations manager.

The Chevy Tahoe PPV is the only full-size, body-on-frame truck-based police vehicle on the market, and for the first time it is offered with 4-wheel-drive capability.

More than 6,500 Tahoe PPVs have been ordered since March when the vehicle was made available to to police agencies and fleets. “The Tahoe PPV & SSV continues to be GM Fleet and Commercial’s most-popular selling police vehicle,” said Ed Peper, U.S. vice president, GM Fleet & Commercial. “The all-new Tahoe strengthens GM’s police portfolio and commitment to the law enforcement market,” he added.

Chevrolet’s police lineup also includes the Caprice PPV and the Impala Limited Police sedan. New for 2015 is the Chevrolet Silverado 1500 Crew Cab Special Service Vehicle (SSV), which has special features designed for police use.
