There are many ‘Dos and Don’ts’ to be followed while driving on snow- and ice-covered roads, but once panic kicks in, everything you know usually goes down the drain.

As soon as this Russian (?) driver of an otherwise capable Toyota Land Cruiser SUV (we’ve no idea what type of tires were fitted on the car) saw that his vehicle started sliding down the road, he lost his cool, slammed the brakes, and locked the steering wheel.

Through sheer luck, and with the exception of a small bump to a parked Lada, he managed to avoid crashing.

No doubt, it was a difficult situation, and without wanting to sound like Captain Hindsight, what he should have done to increase his chances of getting back in control is select a low gear, (enable Hill Descent Control if available), gently tap the brakes accordingly and try to steer the vehicle pointing towards the intended direction of travel.
