BMW Rolls Out Apple Watch App For i3 And i8

Shortly after Porsche’s announcement earlier today, BMW released its own app for the highly anticipated Apple Watch.

However, unlike the Stuttgart carmaker’s version that supports several models including the Macan and Cayenne SUVs, BMW’s app works only with its two plug-in cars, the i3 supermini and the i8 sports car.

Called the “BMW i Remote app” (basically, it’s similar to the existing mobile phone app), it includes various functions such as informing users on the car’s battery status, navigation instructions from the vehicle to the user’s final destination and also allows interior temperature to be pre-conditioned.

Evidently, BMW and Porsche are only the first of a sea of automakers getting ready to jump on the smart-watch bandwagon offering apps that allow users to connect to their vehicles. We’ll have to wait and see just how useful (or not) these connected apps can become in the near future.
