While unknown to most here in North America, German coach-builder Baur has been converting closed-top BMWs into cabriolets for decades.

Throughout the years, the firm also took on various projects from Mercedes-Benz and Opel, but one of the rarest vehicles out there to wear the Baur moniker is the BMW 318i TC4, produced exclusively for the European car market.

Retaining most of the original bodywork of the E36 sedan, the coachbuilder added its own interpretation of the roof, which opens in two sections, but since it was basically a rival for the two-door 3-Series Cabriolet, which was obviously way more popular, Baur quickly pulled the plug on it, after producing only 311 units.

Made in 1993, this example is the only one of its kind believed to come to the United States, and it’s up for sale on eBay, gathering 29 bids at the time of writing, adding up to $5,350. Not a lot is known about its previous ownerships or servicing intervals, but the vendor is opened to test drives and inspections, and states that the car’s odometer stands at 182,215km or 113,223 miles.
