BMW has rolled out Apple CarPlay for a selection of its models but only as a $300 upgrade and not as standard across its range.

Based off the online configurator on the company’s U.S. website, it appears that Apple CarPlay is available as an optional $300 extra across the 2-Series range as well as the 3-Series, 6-Series, 7-Series and for the X5 and X6 SUVs. Interestingly, there is no mention of CarPlay as an option for the 4- and 5-Series models nor the X1, X3, X4 or the i3 and i8 hybrid.

The entire BMW range utilizes infotainment systems that as Apple Insider points out, should be capable of supporting CarPlay but at this stage, fewer than half of the firm’s model ranges appear to be available with the system.

There is a chance this could chance however. BMW only released its first models to be available with Apple CarPlay, the 230i and M240i, earlier in the year and could simply be taking its time in rolling out the system across the entire range.
