2018 Subaru WRX And WRX STI Look The Same But Are More Capable

Although easy to forget about in the tsunami of all-new models, Subaru has brought along its tweaked 2018 WRX and WRX STI range to the Detroit Auto Show.

The cosmetic revisions enjoyed by the 2018 model year vehicles are minor, to say the least, and only the most discerned enthusiasts would be able to notice any differences. Among the changes are a revised front fascia with a large grille and air intakes, LED adaptive headlights for the WRX Limited and STI and a new set of wheels.

The interior upgrades are more noteworthy and include a new 5.9-inch multi-function display for base models and a large Starlink 7.0-inch display for the WRX Premium. Other new features are standard heated wing mirrors for the WRX, power lumbar adjustable for the driver’s seat in the WRX Limited and thicker door glass, refined door grips and a faster remote trunk opening across the range.

The most important improvements come from under the body. The 2018 WRX gets re-tuned suspension, an enhanced 6-speed manual transmission and revised electric power steering. Meanwhile the 2018 WRX STI benefits from upgraded brakes with drilled rotors, a revised DCCD system and modified suspension.

Power for the 2.0-liter turbo Boxer engine of the WRX remains at 268 hp while the STI’s 2.5-liter unit continues to deliver a meaty 305 hp.

What’s with the plastic on the front bumper?

    • Kaisuke971

I don’t get how you can have a full team of people working on these cars yet out of all options the FAKE VENTS made the cut ???

      • donald seymour

It doesn’t make sense. I always ponder about things like that.

        • Kaisuke971

It’s not like having a little bit of drag would affect this thing anyway, but these plastic poser “vents” could disgust quite a few potential buyers ! Why are they using the less effective option, wtf ???

It’s Subaru we’re talking about. They fail in a lot of aesthetic areas.

which part? the entire thing is made from plastic.

      • Honda NSX-R

I was talking about the openings in the front bumper (circled in black in this pic.) They make the car look cheap. https://uploads.disquscdn.com/images/230ea744976362791656056ef1cd35ec73a27de1d60dc03828cc828d15f4d665.png

I knew what parts you were talking about, i was just making a joke. lol.

        • Zandit75

Nothing an afternoon spent with Dremel couldn’t fix, but I agree, they look shocking!
Toyota did something similar with the last Camry.
They could have at least put foglights there to hep fill the space.

          • Mind Synthetic

they have put them there on the wrx model (red), yet they forgot on the sti. scratching head….

          • Zandit75

Yeah, I notice that, then realised what a mess they made of that as well. Subaru have lost their way.

        • Dredd

they forgot to paint it in gloss black…that would be much better

        • Six_Tymes

Good point, your right those parts do make it look cheap, like junk

  • Jim Jones ©

So Subaru has taken over where Mitsubishi left off and reproduced the EVO X.

  • Mike

The red painted calipers on the WRX are a disgrace… Apparently the store manager of Pepboys made the design team

    Where’s the STI wagon???
