Hotter BMW i3S iPerformance To Gain 20HP And Updated Chassis

BMW is readying the facelifted version of the i3 for its premiere at the Frankurt Motor Show, along a new range-topping version: the i3S iPerformance.

Set to offer a sportier driving experience, the i3S will reportedly get a more powerful electric motor, adding 20hp to the standard 168hp for a total of 188hp.

This will allow the upcoming i3S to further improve its straight-line performance but not at the expense of driving range, which will remain the same with the standard 94Ah versions according to Autocar.

The new BMW i3S is also going to get a 40mm wider front track and a 10mm lower suspension height in order to spice up its handling.

The rest of the i3 range will remain technically the same, meaning a 94Ah battery pack feeding a 168hp electric motor. BMW is concentrating on refreshing the quirky exterior look of the i3 with some new bumpers, restyled lights all around, new alloy wheel options and a wider choice of colors.

A new range of trim options as well as the latest version of BMW iDrive infotainment system will be included in the facelifted i3’s interior changes.

This car is one of the best selling cars here in Norway, it’s weird how something so strange looking has become normal with familiarity, but they make sense being fun to drive and huge inside, plus the lower tax benefits. Be interesting to see and drive this ‘hot’ version.

Are there any owners here? I am wondering what is the range these get before they need a charge? and how long does each charge take? I hope there has been improvements in those most important areas, not just bumper design and infotainment system updates in this “hotter” version.

Expect around 200-230 kilometers range at 10-20 Celsius and dry road. I’ve never spent over 25 mins at a fast charger, usually charging from 20-30% till 80%. 10-12 hours charging in my garage.

“Performance” and “i3” in the same sentence is the same as “sensible” and “Trump”.

Its quite sprightly in traffic… Don’t knock it until you tried it… (a friend has one which I drove a couple days ago – I drive an R8 🙂 )

Make a hot hatch version! One with 250+ combined hp and 0-60mpg in about 5sec!

  • Charles Bryant

I don’t think any version of an i3 could ever be considered “hot”.

  • KidRed

If it had a regular shoulder line, minus that rear door cut out, I’d like it so much more.

That’s been my only real beef other than range.. Though I still don’t like the door cut, I like it enough to overlook that I think.. They are a great buy on the used market too… once I get over my supercar fix, I’ll probably get one or whatever they have then when I’m too old to crawl out of my sports cars.
