The all-new 2017 Civic Type R is the first-ever Type R-badged Honda model to be sold in Canada, to be available starting July 14. Prices start from CA$40,890, which is the equivalent of US$31,350. We’ll remind you that in the USA, the Type R has a starting MSRP of $33,900.

This is the most powerful production Honda ever sold in Canada, putting down no fewer than 306 HP (310 PS) and 295 lb-ft (400 Nm) of torque with the help of a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder petrol unit.

Add the short-throw 6-speed manual transmission to the mix as well as the limited slip differential and 4-piston Brembo calipers, and you’ve got a car that will go round the Nurburgring Nordschleife in 7 minutes and 43.8 seconds.

Key exterior features include the Acoustic windshield, Honda LaneWatch blind spot display, LED daytime running lights, LED fog lights, turn signals, taillights and brake lights, mirror-integrated LED turn signal indicators, body-colored heated power side mirrors and a chunky aerodynamics package featuring a front splitter, side winglets, air-stabilizing vents, large rear wing and roof-mounted vortex generators.

Inside, you’ve got a soft touch, one piece instrument panel upper, 7″ Display Audio touchscreen with integrated HVAC controls, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity, a 542-watt 12-speaker stereo system, Honda Satellite-Linked navigation system, Smart Entry and Push Button Start, Hill Start Assist, an electric parking brake and wireless phone charger.

As for safety, the 2017 Honda Civic Type R uses numerous driver-assistance features such as Vehicle Stability Assist with Traction Control, Advanced 4-Channel ABS, EBD, Brake Assist and a multi-angle rear-view camera with guidelines and a tire pressure monitoring system.

Passive safety is highlighted by the Advanced Compatibility Engineering (ACE) body structure, as well as the airbags, rollover sensor and energy-dispersing crash stroke front frame rails.
