Does This BMW E34 M5 Turbo Have Any Hope Against A Bugatti Veyron?

The Bugatti Veyron continues to be benchmark most supercars and hypercars are compared to despite launching twelve years ago.

Installed with a quad-turbo 8.0-liter W16 engine, the Veyron can accelerate to 100 km/h from a standstill in about 2.5 seconds and continues through to a 407 km/h (253 mph) top speed. Surely then, a modified BMW E34 M5 would have no hope against the Veyron in a rolling drag race? Think again.

GTBoard managed to pit these two monsters against each other and the M5 actually manages to win quite convincingly.

As soon as the two accelerate, the M5 starts spitting flames as it bounces off the rev limiter and despite being just rear-wheel drive, it manages to pull away from the Veyron with relative ease, much to the amazement of the Veyron’s driver and passenger.

This just goes to show that no matter what you drive, you can never be too careful racing sleepers.

that is pretty cool. but imagine if someone modified that Veyron, it would crush that M5

    • Vassilis

It could reach 2000 hp in GT 😀

  • Dennis James

Well, it doesn’t mean that any 800-1000hp project car is comparable to a Bugatti Veyron outside some short straight line video 🙂 I know a few people working at projects like these, with forged M engines and big turbos, those cars basically spend 11 out of 12 months of the year being repaired.

    • Six_Tymes

      good point.

  • alexxx

    My favorite m5

  • john1168

Awesome! Someone put that M5 on a dyno! From a standing start, my money is on the Veyron.

  • nastinupe

It still looks like a POS.

    • Matthew Daraei

      You mean Veyron?

  • BGM

The best part of the video is the sportsmanship on the part of the guys in the Veyron. Lesser men would have been all pissed that their million dollar hypercar got beaten by a poor man’s garage project. Instead these guys were laughing it off and went over to the other dude to talk shop to him. That’s the way to do it!

Well said. I was thinking the same thing.
