Lynk & CO 01 Goes On Sale In China, Gets 6,000 Orders In 137 Seconds

Lynk & CO’s global roll-out has begun with the first stop of course being China, where the Geely-owned brand received a record 6,000 orders in just 137 seconds for the 01 crossover.

The company organized a three-day pre-sales event but the initial allocation was completely sold out in 2 minutes 17 seconds, exceeding all expectations.

Prices for the Lynk & CO 01 in the Chinese market range between 158,800 RMB and 202,800 RMB ($24,055 to $30,720 in current exchange rates).

Just like it promised, Lynk’s sales model doesn’t include the traditional base model form and long options lists, instead it offers “a simple selection of fully equipped, one price selections”.

The new Lynk & CO 01 is based on the same underpinnings with the Volvo XC40 and has launched in the Chinese market with two Volvo-derived turbo petrol engines: a 150PS 1.5-liter three-cylinder and a 190PS 2.0-liter four-cylinder unit. Other powertrains will be added later on, including a plug-in hybrid option with the 1.5-liter three-cylinder and a battery-electric option. No diesel units are planned.

Cheaper front-wheel drive versions come with a six-speed manual or a six-speed automatic gearbox while all-wheel drive models come fitted with a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic.

“Online and in our stores, we take away the anxiety of ticking options boxes and the pressure of selecting the right specification” said Alain Visser, senior vice president of Lynk & CO. “We want to break down the barriers to car ownership. No complicated combinations or decisions to make, and no negotiating. Our fixed price offering, subscription model, free connectivity and lifetime warranty take care of all the boring and complicated details, allowing the customer to focus on the fun stuff.”

Sales in Europe are planned to start in 2019 while Lynk & CO will arrive stateside in 2020. The 01 is currently being produced at the same assembly line with the Volvo XC40 in Taizhou, China. A second factory in China is also underway.

The company is currently considering extending production to Europe and to the U.S. by using Volvo’s production plants, including the one in Gent, Belgium and the one in South Carolina, USA.

“We have always said our manufacturing footprint will be global, and it will”, said Visser to Reuters. “It’s obvious that we are talking to Volvo to see whether there are opportunities within the small network of Volvo plants.”

    That’s a good news..

Geely is playing well the game.

Tesla share price was $317.30 at the start of trade today, now is $304.19.
Is the price drop due to the launch of the Lynk & CO 01?
Honestly, Elon Musk needs to re-focus all his attention to the Model 3 and also look at an affordable EV SUV. Forget the trucks, the roadsters, the hyper-loops, the mission to Mars, etc. It is amazing to think that a bottle-neck in the production of the Model 3 cannot be resolved quickly but yet the company says trust them with all the predictions with the other projects.
In the meantime there is very serious EV competition out there. Tesla followers will eventually realise that Tesla are not the only ones that are producing EVs. Hopefully for the Tesla sake they resolve their Model 3 issues ASAP.

There were some stories in summer about Ford not being happy with that name. Has there been any progression?

    • ediotsavant

No. Rumors are that Ford was trying to unload Lincoln to Geely, but they weren’t interested.

    • alexxx

Yes…they realized nobody cared for their complain…rightely so….

      • brn

It’s one of the most blatant automotive name rip-offs of modern times. Why does no one care?

        • alexxx

Cause…it’s no rip off…if they needed a strong name they should have probably stolen Ferrari or Mercedes ….don’t you think?😂

          • brn

I do admit that if I were going to rip off a name, I’d choose one with a better reputation. Maybe they figured they’d get less of a fight this way.

  • Smallenpik

Nice car. The Chinese are growing up fast!

    • brn

How can you tell? The video didn’t really show the car. Even the pics, don’t show the car.

  • ediotsavant

Geely will pave the way for China’s entry into the luxury segment.

    • Mill0048

And overall good for the Chinese auto industry. They need more manufactures that take it seriously instead of just copy/paste a car with a new bumper and name.

    • brn

Yep that luxury car with a 148hp 3-cyl that doesn’t pass US emissions.

  • Ary Wisesa

I think it’s goodlooking, with a proper original face, not another copy cat that seriously tainted the image of Chinese manufacturers. Good job Geely.

  • sidewaysspin

    Still a Chinese car.

When did millenials tell car companies that they like small crossovers that look like toys??? Juke, Kicks, XC40, Kona, Cactus, Renegade, and many more. Just stop it already! Bright colors and plastic cladding are just tacky and will be out of fashion really soon.
