The Dacia 1300 is a relic of the Cold War era; a Renault 12-based car that was supposed to provide affordable transportation to Romanians that, like the Iron Curtain, isn’t missed by anyone.

Now, the original car was pretty awful. But the example isn’t exactly stock, because it delivers 500 horsepower to all four corners.

Yep, you read that right: someone decided to put a four-wheel drive system in a Dacia 1300, along with a 1.8-liter turbocharged engine. And, to be honest, we’re not sure which is craziest – the output or the AWD conversion…

Compared to the cars that rolled out from the production line in the Communist era, this one is about 10 times more powerful which, we guess, must put quite a strain on that chassis.

So, what does one do with all of them horses running wild under the hood? Why, unleash them at drag racing events, obviously.

In this instance, the owner of this Dacia 1300 lined up up his ride against a BMW 3-Series Touring. More specifically, a 335d xDrive with 310 horsepower and all-wheel drive, which help it hit 100km/h (62mph) from a standstill in just 4.8 seconds. Pretty nifty for a diesel-powered compact estate, that one.
