Little did the old Dacia engineers think that some of their creations would go up against more powerful machines almost four decades later, but the amazing has been happening for quite a few years now.

Yet, apparently, some thought it would be worth tuning the ancient Romanian car and go drag racing. One of these was this year’s Campia Turzii quarter mile run that saw such a Dacia pinned against a more powerful and expensive BMW i8.

The owner if this relic has fitted a 2.0-liter turbo engine under the hood, which feeds approximately 340 horsepower to the all-wheel drive system. Yes, AWD, instead of the standard FWD, and 340 HP coming from a 2-liter turbo’d lump that replaces the old 1.3-liter naturally aspirated unit that produced just a little over 50 ponies back when the car was still new. That evens out the odds a little, doesn’t it?
