If there’s anything that can make even the most careful drivers feel anxious, it’s the thought of somebody suddenly crashing into you from behind, while you’re stationary and just minding your own business.

These types of scenarios can unfold in multiple ways. It can happen when you’re at a light, or perhaps when you stop at a crosswalk and the driver behind you is caught off-guard. Unfortunately, we depend as much on other drivers, as we do on ourselves, in many scenarios.

What happened here at an intersection in Gallatin, Tennessee (just north of Nashville), is a perfect example of how bad things can happen to you in traffic, without you having to do anything ill-fated.

According to the description of the video, the driver of the semi got on the brakes way too late and as a result, crashed into a white sedan that was stationary and waiting for a green light. Inside the car were a mother and her young son, both of whom walked away unharmed, yet a little sore.

What’s scary is that the kid was in the backseat and apparently, the trunk of the car was pushed back all the way in. Thankfully, the cabin wasn’t punctured in any way.

In the end, the fact that we only hear wheels screeching upon impact tells us that the driver of the semi didn’t just react late to the traffic ahead, but wasn’t paying much attention at all.
