The Tesla Model X may not be the most attractive SUV in the world, but in P100D guise, it is one of the quickest. Is it quicker than a Lamborghini Aventador, however?

To find out, Car Wow pitted a Model X P100D against an especially eye-catching Lamborghini Aventador for a series of drag races from both standing and rolling starts.

When it comes to launch from a standing start, it is the Aventador that has the upper hand. This shouldn’t be a surprise to anyone who knows about the Italian marque’s flagship supercar.

Thanks to its naturally-aspirated 6.5-liter V12 engine, seven-speed ISR transmission and all-wheel drive, the Aventador can easily and consistently reach 100 km/h (62 mph) in less than 3 seconds.

By comparison, the Model X P100D is also exceptionally rapid off the line, but not quite quick enough to beat the Lambo. Swap out the Model X for a Model S and the story would probably be very different.

From a rolling start, the two are quite evenly matched, despite hugely different powertrains. So, did the Tesla manage to beat the Lamborghini this time? The answer lies in the video that follows right after the break.
