Ford is giving the Tourneo Custom significant powertrain updates for the 2019 model year in Europe.

The people carrier gains more powerful and efficient 2.0-liter EcoBlue turbo diesel engines, optionally available in EcoBlue Hybrid mild-hybrid versions. Additionally, the Tourneo Custom will offer new driver assistance technologies.

The 2.0-liter EcoBlue four-cylinder turbo diesel engine will be available with up to 185 PS (183 hp) and 415 Nm (306 lb-ft) of torque. As a result, Ford says the people mover offers “more responsive performance and greater pulling power when carrying up to nine occupants and luggage.” Ford also offers the 2.0L EcoBlue in two lower-powered versions of 130 PS (128 hp) and 105 PS (104 hp). According to the automaker, the new diesel engines offer up to a 6 percent improvement in fuel efficiency.

The 185 PS and 130 PS versions are also offered with a 48-volt mild-hybrid setup that further lowers fuel consumption, especially in stop-start urban driving scenarios. Anticipated WLTP combined fuel economy for both EcoBlue Hybrid models is as low as 7.0 l/100 km (40.3 mpg UK), with corresponding CO2 emissions of 183 g/km. The mild-hybrid powertrains are only available with a manual transmission while the regular EcoBlue models are also available with an automatic gearbox.

Besides the new powertrains, the Tourneo Custom gains the FordPass Connect on-board modem technology which makes possible an onboard WiFi hotspot for up to 10 devices. Finally, the people carrier is now available with new driver assistance technologies including Active Park Assist and Lane-Keeping Aid.

The updated Tourneo Custom lineup will be available from mid-2019 in European markets.
