The new Mercedes G-Class is a versatile SUV that can go where no other Benz has gone before – unless it’s a 4×4, a 6×6 or a Unimog, of course, but you get the picture.

To prove its credentials again, the automaker took it to the Punta Negra Dam, in Argentina, which is located on the San Juan River, some 15+ miles (24+ km) west of the city that bears the same name. The dam is 331 feet (101 meters) tall and 2,297 feet (700 meters) long, and it was finished almost four years ago.

The risky stunt was completed by a G 350 d, which had no problem driving on the inclined wall. As for why they engaged in this stunt, Mercedes simply replied “because it can do it”, adding that the G-Class “can reach places others wouldn’t reach, not even in their wildest dreams”. Wonder who they might be referring to…

Unless you’re afraid of damaging that pretty paint, the second-gen G-Class can endure anything you throw at it. This is made possible by the approach and departure angles of 30.9 and 29.9 degrees, respectively, and 9.5 in (24.1 cm) ground clearance. It also has stable handling at side slope angles of up to 70 percent, a maximum fording depth of 27.6 in (70 cm) and a 25.7 degree breakover angle.

Not bad at all for a vehicle that can also cruise the streets of Monaco and turn heads, wouldn’t you say?
