The BMW 750i xDrive is an absolute brute of a luxury saloon, and this video shows that, given a straight piece of abandoned German autobahn, is capable of some pretty impressive acceleration.
We are fully aware that the top spot in the 7-Series range belongs to the neck-snapping M760Li xDrive that’s powered by a twin-turbocharged 6.6-liter V12 with 592 HP and 627 lb-ft (850 Nm) of torque. However, we weren’t fully aware of just how rapid its more affordable and less powerful sibling was.

Whereas the M760Li xDrive has a huge twelve-cylinder, the 750i xDrive makes do with a smaller, twin-turbocharged 4.4-liter V8 delivering 523 HP and 533 lb-ft (723 Nm). In a world where luxury sedans with upwards of 600 HP are becoming more common, it could be easy to disregard it as nothing to write home about, but it would be foolish to think that 523 HP is not enough, even for a car as heavy as the 7-Series.
According to BMW, the 750i xDrive has an unladen weight of 2,075 kg (4,574 lbs) and during a recent test of the car, AutoTopNL was able to launch it to 100 km/h (62 mph) in just 4.2 seconds. In 14.41 seconds, the 7er breezes past 200 km/h (124 mph) after recording a 12.19-second quarter mile. The driver was able to run through to an indicated 260 km/h (162 mph) on the digital speedometer before being held back by the car’s electronic limiter. If we lived in Germany, we’d probably have that nagging feature removed, if only to see what it can really do flat out.
