Four years after it left production making room for the turbocharged 488, which was in turn replaced by the F8 Tributo, the 458 is still regarded as being one of the best mid-engined Ferraris ever.
Sure, it couldn’t be had with a good old stick shift, as Maranello decided to ditch them altogether, but it did come with a marvelous, 4.5-liter naturally aspirated V8 that won the Best Performance Engine of the Year award back in 2011.
Its 570 PS (562 hp / 419 kW) and 540 Nm (398 lb-ft) rocket the 458 Italia from rest to 100 km/h (0-62 mph) in just 3.4 seconds and on to a 325 km/h (202 mph) top speed. Ferrari paired the V8 to a seven-speed, dual-clutch transmission, which sent power to the rear wheels.
No true car enthusiasts would ever refuse having a go in a 458, let alone get one and use it as a weekend car. We wouldn’t mind a nice F430 either, or a 360 Modena for that matter.
However, since indulging in the Ferrari experience requires having lots of money not just to get one, but cater for its ultra expensive maintenance as well, we’ll satisfy our fetish by watching the best Prancing Horses being punished every once in a while on video.
