Earlier this year, the 2019 Camaro ZL1 made its way to Australia, courtesy of HSV, who are converting the left-hand drive sports car to RHD.
More recently, the country’s motoring journalists had the chance to sit behind the wheel of the impressive muscle car, giving their feedback on it.
So, starting with the conversion and ending with the powertrain and the handling, the Camaro ZL1 is one dream ride. And for many, it will remain one, as it’s priced just AUD $10 (USD $7) shy of the AUD $160,000 (USD $108,398) mark.

Compared to the U.S.-spec model, the Aussie Camaro has 10 HP less, with the 6.2-liter V8 pumping out 640 hp (477 kW). The torque has remained identical, though, at 650 lb-ft (881 Nm). As standard, the engine is hooked up to a 6-speed manual transmission, but a 10-speed auto, with paddle shifters and launch control, is optional. Stopping power is provided by Brembo brakes and the car also gets electronically-controlled limited slip differential, Magnetic Ride Control dampers and a performance exhaust with two modes.
The Camaro ZL1 provides an outstanding balance between performance and pricing. It’s also a peach to drive on twisty roads, but it does feel big and heavy; which is no surprise because, well, it actually is. Also, rear visibility is very limited and the back seat won’t fit your normally-sized adult friends. The boot is on the small side, too, but if you only care about looks and sheer power (and can afford it), then this is an excellent choice.
