This Polestar Concept Has A Design Inspired By Chinese Warriors

Polestar, the all-electric brand from Volvo, is shaping up to be one of the big players in the world of electric vehicles and has already revealed two models, the Polestar 1 and Polestar 2. Could it also do with a true halo vehicle?

One could consider the Polestar 1 as a halo car and we wouldn’t blame them. After all, it will be capped to just 1500 units worldwide, and has no less than 592 hp on tap. However, it’s a hybrid and promoting an electric brand with a hybrid might not be the best way to go about things. We’d like to see Polestar release an all-electric hypercar in the vein of the second-generation Tesla Roadster. That’s what these renderings show.

The design comes from designer “殷 格” on Behance and is dubbed the Polestar S Concept. It takes inspiration from the ancient armor once worn by Chinese warriors and is clearly identifiable as a car from the Swedish manufacturer.

For starters, the car is a two-door and features a low-slung roof to give it a seriously sporty edge. In addition, the front end is dominated by sharp and angular surfaces and includes a thin version of Volvo’s ‘Thor’s Hammer’ headlights that are connected by an LED lightbar. Spin around to the rear and there are similarly shaped LED taillights. Angular arches complete the design.

If Polestar were to design such a flagship hypercar, it could fit it with either two or four electric motors and rival some of the market’s fastest cars.

I’m use to seeing more glitter on my “Polestars”.

    • McFly

It’s been a tradition for at least ten years to put at least one of those jokes in the comments of every Polestar article.

We wouldn’t want to break with tradition now would we.

Lol the concept brief shows chinese armor inspired yet during the sketches hes taking design lines from western style armor? Also Theres some scifi concept armor mixed in as well. Not really feeling the story but the cars cool I guess.

    • Tinky-Winky

I almost bought her cool story but it caught my eye too. She talks 3 pages about samurais as inspiration and then seemingly ditches it and bases the whole design on semi-fictitious western armors instead.

I feel like some ‘inspiration’ was taken from the 2009 Stingray Concept https://uploads.disquscdn.com/images/ab3b32fc85b935955f968dd7966825490d0e6a568dbe14f438f486f5de4e2a51.jpg

      good catch

  • McFly

Actually, design studies like this is what Polestar need to produce themselves ASAP, to show us that they don’t plan to cannibalise on Volvo designs forever.

    • Big Black Duck

      Agreed

  • SO MUCH FOR VOLVO’S SWEDISH HISTORY. LOOKS LIKE BOLINGER LENT THEM A STRAIGHT EDGE.

This is so out of character for a communist country.

    • McFly

Besides the fact that she’s a student at a German design school, I think you are unaware of were the bulk of the world’s industrial design is being made today.

That Chinese armor timeline is really informative

  • Rzrlf

but every actual form is taken from a western knight? this is no correlation to a Chinese warrior throughout his sketches, thumbs up for master chief tho

Looks like a cross between the Cadillac Cien and Corvette concept

Very precise and interesting from a design perspective, but it is kind of lacking in the “soul” and emotion department. The side has some promise, there’s some Camaro and Audi in there. The front end has some promise too, but he’s too ideological, like someone who works in the VW/Audi design department.
