Dashcams have caught countless accidents over the years, but this clip shows a bad driver getting some instant karma.

As you can see in the video, the driver of the dashcam equipped vehicle is approaching an intersection with a green light. This isn’t particularly noteworthy, but a red Ford Focus attempts to blow through their red light.

The driver of the dashcam equipped vehicle lets out a quick honk and the Focus stops with only inches to spare. Despite this close encounter, the Focus pulls into oncoming traffic and cuts off a Ford Explorer.

As luck would have it, this wasn’t your typical Explorer but rather a Police Interceptor Utility. The officer quickly activates their emergency lights and pulls the Focus over.

The video ends shortly thereafter and there’s no word on what happened next. However, we wouldn’t be surprised if the driver of the Focus was ticketed for failure to yield or some other offense.

It also remains unclear why the driver attempted to run the red light, but they could have been distracted. If that’s the case, it could carry additional penalties especially if a smartphone was involved.

While this incident occurred in Canada, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration says distracted driving caused 3,166 deaths in the United States in 2017. The agency says texting is the most dangerous distraction as “sending or reading a text takes your eyes off the road for five seconds.” At 55 mph (89 km/h), that’s the equivalent of traveling the entire length of a football field with your eyes closed.
