As the Toyota Supra and BMW Z4 share so much in common, it is extremely unlikely a full convertible version of the former will be produced. Not dissuaded by this, Jon Sibal has rendered what a Speedster variant of the 2020 Supra could look like.

It wouldn’t be unfair to say that the design of the new Supra has ruffled a few feathers. We happen to think it looks great but know many people disagree. We can agree, though, that a Speedster body style suits the Japanese sports car perfectly.

Sibal’s Supra Speester isn’t as low-slung as the recent McLaren Elva and Ferrari SP1/SP2 Monza and is instead a little more restrained with a slightly taller windshield and side windows. Nevertheless, it still looks very sporty and we particularly like the overhauled decklid that includes pronounced buttresses behind the seats.

Too Much Power For Some: 2020 Toyota Supra Driver Floors It, Crashes Right Into A Tree

The designer based his creation on a Supra Launch Edition model, as evidenced by the rear wing mirror caps. It has also been modified with new alloy wheels, an extended front splitter, and new side skirts.

Toyota sold the previous-generation Supra with an available targa top to give drivers that open-air experience without a dedicated, and potentially flimsy, folding fabric roof. Late last year, Toyota Supra chief engineer Tetsuya Tada admitted that the company was considering some kind of open top GR Supra, perhaps one with a targa top as opposed to a full convertible roof like the BMW Z4. This, we can see happening, even though it won’t be as dramatic as this Speedster rendering.
