A Tesla Cybertruck prototype has been spied out and about in Los Angeles with none other than Tesla chief executive Elon Musk behind the wheel.

In one clip of the Cybertruck filmed on the 405 Freeway, the all-electric pickup truck looks absolutely gargantuan. In the U.S., big trucks dominate the roads so it’ll fit right in, but in some overseas markets, it should tower over most other vehicles.

One particularly intriguing aspect of this Cybertruck prototype is that it appears to feature a slightly different headlight design than the show car presented to the world a couple of weeks ago. Whereas the show car had a single LED light bar stretching across the front fascia, this prototype features a thinner LED light bar and more traditional LED headlights on either side. It’s impossible to say if this is what the finished truck will look like but the headlight design certainly appears more likely to be approved for production than the light bar of the concept.

There’s no way of knowing what powertrain this prototype, since the Cybertruck will be available in three different configurations. As reported earlier today, the first to launch will be the Tri Motor AWD in 2021. This variant has, as its name suggests, three electric motors, is able to hit 60 mph in just 2.9 seconds while traveling more than 500 miles (800 km) on a single charge.

The mid-range Dual Motor will be equipped with two electric motors, one on each axle, allowing for a 0-60 mph (96 km/h) time of 4.5 seconds and a range exceeding 300 miles (480 km), while the Single Motor, which has been pushed back to 2022, will use one electric motor, hit 60 mph in 6.5 seconds and have a range just over 250 miles (400 km).

Hat tip to Terry for the heads-up!
