Following a handful of teasers, Skoda has officially unveiled the Vision IN concept ahead of its debut at Auto Expo 2020.

Designed to preview an all-new crossover developed specifically for India, the Vision IN promises the “optimum amount of space, perfectly combined with the highest degree of versatility and state-of-the-art technologies.”

Starting up front, the concept has an aggressive fascia with an illuminated grille that is flanked by slender LED headlights. Further below, we can see plastic body cladding and an aluminum skid plate.

Moving further back, there’s pronounced fenders and retractable door handles. The concept also has a panoramic glass roof, aluminum roof rails and 19-inch alloy wheels.

Out back, there are L-shaped taillights and a lower LED light strip. The model also has an aluminum rear diffuser and a tailgate-mounted spoiler.

Overall, the concept measures 167.6 inches (4,256 mm) long with a wheelbase that spans 105.2 inches (2,671 mm).  The crossover is also 62.6 inches (1,589 mm) tall, but there’s no word on its width.

While the exterior is bit generic, the cabin is anything but as it mixes “traditional Indian design and Bohemian crystal glass art.” As a result, there’s genuine crystal trim and a dashboard which embraces the Indian textile printing technique known as Kalamkari.

On the tech side, there’s a digital instrument cluster and a freestanding 12.3-inch infotainment system. There’s also a crystal on the dashboard which allows people to communicate with the concept’s digital assistant.

Besides the unique design, the cabin is eco-friendly as it features organic rhubarb leather and a roof liner made from recycled plastic fibers. The model also Piñatex upholstery which is described as a leather alternative made from waste pineapple leaves.

Motivation is provided by a turbocharged 1.5-liter TSI petrol engine that produces 148 hp (110 kW / 150 PS) and 184 lb-ft (250 Nm) of torque. It is connected to a seven-speed DSG gearbox which sends power to the front wheels. Skoda says this enables the concept to accelerate from 0-62 mph (0-100 km/h) in 8.7 seconds, before hitting a top speed of 121 mph (195 km/h).

Following the debut of the concept, a production model will arrive in early 2021. It will become the first vehicle based on the new MQB-A0-IN platform. As the name suggests, the architecture is a “specially adapted” version of the MQB platform for the Indian market.
