We won’t have to wait long to see the new generation of the Genesis G80 in full and in the flesh as the Koreans have announced that the official presentation will take place (online, of course) on March 30, 2020 through a teaser video.

Meanwhile, new photos have surfaced, including a couple of official renders revealing more details of the front and rear of the G80. We also have a series of spy shots from South Korea and the G80 Club that show the 3D digital instrument cluster that’s identical to the GV80 SUV alongside some fresh images of the interior and partially covered up prototypes.

Wrapping up the imagery finds, 3D artist and Instagram user sin_eu0 used his skills to draw up better and more realistic GCI’s of the new G80 using Genesis’ own renders and spy shots of testers.

If there’s one thing we can say for sure, it’s that Genesis is pretty serious about adopting a family look across the board expressed by the brand’s new “Athletic Elegance” design language. In the case of the 2021 G80, it results in a look that is more sporty, dynamic and upscale compared to its predecessor – which wasn’t a bad looking car to begin with.

The new G80 will have the same 3D digital instrument cluster as the GV80 SUV

What Else Do We Know About The New G80?

Beyond its athletic appearance that has drawn comparisons to the Audi A7 Sportback (to be clear, in regards to its silhouette and body style), the G80 that slots between the smaller G70 and the larger G90 sedans is riding on a new platform shared with the also new GV80 SUV.

While Genesis remains coy on specifications, the sedan will most likely share its North American powertrains with its high-riding counterpart. That means at launch, we’ll probably see a turbocharged 2.5-liter four-cylinder with around 290 HP serving as the base engine and a twin-turbo 3.5-liter V6 pumping out 375 HP as the upgrade option. Both gasoline units will likely be offered with a standard 8-speed automatic and either rear- or all-wheel drive. Other markets will be offered a diesel too (boo-hoo-hoofor U.S.).

Prices, Features, Warranty And Other Details

Once again, the G80’s sister model GV80 provides us with a guide on what to expect in terms of equipment features, options and tech, with base models to likely come with all the usual driver assistance, safety and luxury amenities you’d expect today, but for all the bells and whistles, you’ll have to move up the trim ladder. For details check our story below on the GV80’s trim levels.

The current G80 is priced between $42,550 for the base 311 HP 3.8 V6 RWD rising to $60,000 for the 420 HP 5.0 AWD, before delivery fees. We expect Genesis to apply slightly higher prices for the 2021 G80, though it will definitely be notably cheaper than the GV80 that starts from $48,900. The competition for the G80 includes Germany’s Audi A6, BMW 5-Series and Mercedes-Benz E-Class.

As for warranty, expect the same 60,000 miles or 5-year limited coverage, together with 10 years or 100,000 miles for the powertrain and free maintenance for the first 3 years or 36,000 miles, whichever comes first.

The new G80 is expected to launch in the USA and Canada in the second half of the year, with more details to be released on March 30.
