The current-generation F22 BMW 2-Series Coupe has been in production for the past seven years, which means it’s getting ready to be replaced.

Thankfully, a brand new model is well on its way, with a member of the 2Addicts forum recently finding a pair of images showcasing the alleged new 2 Coupe. At first glance, we see no reason to suspect the images aren’t real, which in turn makes these renderings by Kolesa extremely relevant.

Starting at the front, the new 2-Series Coupe has a wider and more angular grille than its predecessor, while the headlights are sharper and considerably more modern. As for the front bumper, by the looks of it, the rendering is clearly meant to depict some type of M-Sport variant.

The rear end meanwhile isn’t that big of a departure in terms of design compared to the current 2-Series Coupe, even though the bumper is a bit different and the taillights have been completely redesigned to the point where they now remind us of the rear light units of the pre-LCI E90 3-Series Sedan – but only their shape.

The graphics themselves are what you’d expect on a modern-day BMW, although the way they curl downwards is a bit odd. Still, the pattern follows the shape of the rear quarter panel, so there’s definitely method to the “madness”.

Looks aside, the new 2-Series Coupe will be more of a driver’s car than its four-door Gran Coupe sibling, due to the simple fact that it will feature rear-wheel drive, running on the carmaker’s CLAR architecture. In fact, its chassis will have many things in common with that of the latest BMW Z4 and Toyota Supra, according to Autocar.

Available drivetrains should include three- (outside of U.S), four- and six-cylinder engines, available with both manual and automatic transmissions. The flagship model will be the M2 Coupe, powered by the same twin turbo 3.0-liter six-cylinder unit found in the X3 M and X4 M, only de-tuned to somewhere just over 400 HP.

We can expect BMW to unveil the all-new 2-Series Coupe later this year.
