The second-generation Ford GT has proven to be a huge success for the American automaker since its unveiling at the start of 2015. It is a proper race car for the road and while more recent competition has taken the performance envelop to new heights, few competitors can match the history and prestige of the GT.

The 2018 GT featured in the video below is owned by British businessman James Cottingham who also happens to be part owner of an original Ford GT40 which he frequently races. Fittingly, his new Ford GT wears the same paint scheme as his GT40, including the same red, white, and blue racing stripes.

In this video from TheSupercarDriver, Cottingham speaks about his original GT40 as well as his 2018 GT and provides us with a fascinating insight into what it is like to owner these two beasts.

Ford famously built the second-generation Ford GT to take a class win at the 24 Hours of Le Mans. It managed to do just that and for homologation purposes, needed to produce a road-going variant.

The initial plan from Ford was to cap production of the GT to 500 units over the course of a two-year production run. However, following the car’s positive reception, production was increased by a further 500 units. Things didn’t stop there and Ford has since committed to building a further 350 units and concluding production in 2022.

Despite not being as rare as it once was, Cottingham absolutely loves his 2018 model, commenting that just 12 Ford GTs were delivered to the UK in 2018 and that no other GTs have been delivered to the UK in 2019 or 2020.
