There is a big difference between a GT3 racing car and modified road cars that have been modified for track use or racers from lesser categories, as this video reveals.

The following clip was uploaded to YouTube by British racing driver David Pittard and shows him behind the wheel of a BMW M6 GT3 at the Nurburgring. During the course of a single lap, he overtakes no less than 54 other cars.

Admittedly, this isn’t really a fair comparison as many of the cars that Pittard was able to overtake were not GT3 race cars and instead significantly slower (and cheaper) race cars that complete in lower classes. Nevertheless, it is a joy to watch the M6 GT3 speeding past so many cars with such ease.

Even if you’re never driven at a track and perhaps only have experience playing around in racing games, you’ll know that overtaking other drivers at high speeds on a circuit as tight, technical, and dangerous as the Nurburgring isn’t easy. What’s also particularly interesting is the patience that Pittard has behind the wheel. Despite many of the slower drivers holding him up and failing to make way as quickly as they should, he keeps a cool head and expertly slices his way through the field.

Powering the M6 GT3 is a twin-turbocharged V8 that can pump out as much as 585 hp, depending on the racing series it is competing in. Moreover, while the M6 was a rather heavy road car, the GT3 racer weighs less than 2,866 lbs (1,300 kg).
