The Toyota GR Yaris is one of the most exciting hot hatches in recent memory and in a new video posted online by Gazoo Racing, the car manufacturer is very eager to showcase the similarities between it and the Toyota Yaris WRC car.

The short but thrilling clip shows both the GR Yaris and the Yaris WRC car speeding their way through a tight and twisty mountain road, perfect for a hot hatch that is as small as the Yaris.

While the video allows us to hear the screaming WRC car, what makes the clip particularly interesting are the wild powerslides that the driver of the GR Yaris is able to perform. Although the hatch doesn’t have a dedicated drift mode like some other performance cars, it is clear that with a pull of the handbrake and some finesse, you can perform some very impressive drifts with the car.

Powering the GR Yaris is a 1.6-liter turbocharged three-cylinder engine that produces 257 hp and 266 lb-ft (360 Nm) of torque in standard form but 268 hp and 273 lb-ft (370 Nm) in Japanese spec. Paired to this engine is a six-speed manual transmission sending power through all four wheels.

Certain markets will also be offered a ‘Circuit Pack’ that adds Torsen limited-slip differentials to both the front and rear, performance-tuned suspension, and 18-inch forged wheels with 225/40 Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tires.

Adding to the appeal of the GR Yaris is the fact that it weighs just 1,280 kg (2,822 lbs), giving it a power-to-weight ratio of 4.9 kg per 1PS. It can hit 62 mph (100 km/h) in just 5.2 seconds and tops out at an electronically-limited 143 mph (230 km/h).
