BMW is working on an electric 7-Series and new details about the upcoming model are starting to emerge.

According to Car Magazine, the i7 will arrive in 2023 and have a 100+ kWh battery pack, which will reportedly enable it to travel more than 300 miles (483 km) on a single charge.

The publication goes on to claim the i7 will have two electric motors that give it all-wheel drive and a combined output of 536 hp (400 kW / 543 PS). If that’s the case, the i7 won’t be much of an improvement over the i4, as BMW has previously said that the latter will have around 523 hp (390 kW / 530 PS).

While additional specifications are unknown at the moment, the i4 will be able to accelerate from 0-62 mph (0-100 km/h) in approximately four seconds and hit a top speed in excess of 125 mph (200 km/h). Given the extra weight of the i7 and its modest performance advantage, if the aforementioned info is correct, the car would likely be a bit slower than the i4.

The i7’s reported range also seems somewhat questionable as the i4 will have a battery pack with a capacity of approximately 80 kWh. Despite being roughly 20 kWh smaller, the i4 is slated to have a range of around 373 miles (600 km) in the WLTP cycle – and the difference might (or might not) be explained by the extra size and weight of the i7.

Of course, BMW’s all-electric luxury sedan is still some time into the future, so any rumored specifications should be taken with a grain of salt.
