Admittedly 2020 was a very challenging year for everyone, and that includes the automotive industry, yet somehow Porsche managed to come close to setting a new sales record.

The Stuttgart brand sold 272,162 vehicles last year, only 3 percent less than in 2019 when they set a new record with 280,800 units.

“The coronavirus crisis posed a great challenge from spring 2020 onwards. Nevertheless, we were able to keep deliveries comparatively stable for the year as a whole”, said the Member of the Executive Board for Sales and Marketing, Detlev von Platen.

“Our fresh, attractive product range, the successful start of the Taycan as the first all-electric Porsche and the charisma of our brand – all this contributed to this positive result despite the difficult times”, added the Porsche exec.

Last year, the Taycan raked in 20,015 units, despite a six-week pause in production. The Cayenne remained the brand’s best-selling vehicle, with 92,860 units, while the 911 totaled 34,328 sales and the 718 sold 21,784 examples.

In the Asia-Pacific, Africa and the Middle East regions, Porsche sold 121,641 vehicles in 2020, a 4 percent increase. Another 80,892 units were sold in Europe (down 9 percent) and 69,629 in America, an 8 percent loss over 2019. The company’s biggest single market was China, with 88,968 sales, up 3 percent, followed by the USA with 57,294 vehicles, down 7 percent, and Germany with 26,152 units sold, a 17 percent decrease.

“We are full of optimism and looking forward to 2021, a year that will also be characterized by unique experiences with the Porsche brand”, von Platen added.
