EV startups are a dime a dozen these days, but the latest comes from Canada and is called Maple Majestic.

While the name sounds like a syrupy joke, the “Maple” refers to Canada’s iconic maple leaf while “Majestic” notes the country’s status as a Constitutional Monarchy.

The company didn’t go into many specifics, but said they aim to become “Canada’s first modern automotive OEM” as well as the country’s “flagship brand of automobiles on the world stage.”

While crossovers are king, Maple Majestic’s first model will be a stylish sedan with a front end that vaguely recalls the Tesla Model 3. However, that’s where the similarities end as the model has streamlined bodywork and a downward sloping beltline. We can also see pronounced fenders, flush-mounted door handles and circular taillights that are connected via a thin illuminated stripe.

Since the car hails from Canada, it has been designed with extreme weather in mind. In particular, the model is envisioned to have an adjustable suspension which can be raised by up to 5.9 inches (150 mm) to clear obstacles such as heavy snow.

Thanks to the trick suspension, the model will offer up to 11.4 inches (290 mm) of ground clearance in its max setting.  This is kind of insane considering the Jeep Wrangler Rubicon has 10.8 inches (274 mm) of ground clearance.

Maple Majestic didn’t release interior pictures, but they said the model has a 122 inch (3,100 mm) wheelbase. That’s between the BMW 5- and 7-Series, and should allow for a spacious cabin with plenty of rear seat legroom.

Maple Majestic didn’t mention performance specifications, but said “key electrical components including batteries, inverters and motors are becoming readily available as commodity items.” This seems to suggest the car will be built with off-the-shelf components as the company will “focus on other areas of innovation.”

While that’s not much to go on, the company suggested they’ll offer multiple battery packs to suit the needs of various drivers. Maple Majestic is also considering a “hybrid version,” which would use a small international combustion engine as “back-up power generation.” This seems to imply the model would actually be a range-extended EV.

There’s no word on when the Maple Majestic will be launched or how much it will cost, but founder Arkadiusz Kaminski said it “shouldn’t be thought of as a sedan but rather more of a super car with four doors.”  However, most people will probably think of it as vaporware until more concrete details are released.
