Mustangs are famously known for hitting the curb (or worse) at car meets, so it’s refreshing to see one that hits the curbs of a circuit.
Although they generally haven’t made a name for themselves as track cars, with a skilled driver behind the wheel they can be quite fast, especially with the V8 engine under the hood like this Mustang Bullitt that was recently put through its paces at the Hockenheim GP.

Besides the clock, the limited edition model that celebrates the car from the Bullitt movie starring Steve McQueen also fought the new BMW 4-Series Coupe. The version chosen for this test was the M440i xDrive, which uses the brand’s familiar turbocharged 3.0-liter inline-six. In this case, it is assisted by a mild-hybrid system that adds another 11 HP for a total output of 382 HP and 369 pound-feet (500 Nm) of torque.
On the other hand, the Euro-spec Mustang Bullitt makes use of an upgraded version of the 5.0-liter V8 which produces 452 HP and 387 lb-ft (525 Nm). Putting the thrust down is a bit tricky though, because unlike the BMW, which has a clever all-wheel drive system to assist it during takeoff and cornering, the Ford is offered strictly with rear-wheel drive.
