From January till March this year, Tesla has posted its best quarter delivery figures ever.

During the first quarter of 2021, the electric car manufacturer delivered 184,800 vehicles, beating Wall Street analysts’ estimates of 177,822 vehicles. Tesla’s delivery numbers for Q1 also exceeded its previous quarterly record of 180,570 deliveries achieved in Q4 2020.

“We are encouraged by the strong reception of the Model Y in China and are quickly progressing to full production capacity,” Tesla said in a statement. “The new Model S and Model X have also been exceptionally well received… and we are in the early stages of ramping production.”

Of the 184,800 vehicles delivered, the Model 3 and Model Y accounted for 182,780, a 13 per cent jump from the previous quarter. By comparison, sales of the Model S and Model X plummeted from 18,920 vehicles to just 2,020 during the first three months of the year. Apart from their higher prices, the unveiling of the facelifted Model S and Model X at the end of January has impacted sales of the outgoing, pre-facelift models.

The impressive delivery sales come shortly after Tesla chief financial officer Zachary Kirkhorn warned in January that production would be low because of the company’s transition to revamped products. In addition, according to Automotive News, the ongoing global semiconductor shortage and delays at ports hurt Tesla during the quarter.

Wedbush analyst Dan Ives expects Tesla to sell more than 850,000 vehicles this year, Reuters reports.
