It may come as a surprise to pickup truck-obsessed Americans, but Europeans will tow almost any load with a sedan or a hatchback. Take, for example, this BMW M5 seen towing a pretty sizeable powerboat.

While an American would doubtless reach for a quarter-ton, if not a larger truck to tow that boat, the Europeans in this video (first picked up by the Netherlands’ Autostrada) don’t need that much vehicle. To be fair, though, there’s no denying that the twin-turbocharged V8 employed by the M5 has the grunt to haul trailers, boats, and ass, apparently.

It’s unclear whether this is the M5 or the M5 Competition but either way the driver has access to plenty of power. The former makes 592 hp (441 kW) and 553 lb-ft (750 Nm) of torque while the latter puts out 617 hp (617 kW) and 553 lb-ft (750 Nm) of torque.

Not only is that enough power to get the M5 Competition to 60 mph in just 3.3 seconds, it’s enough to take off in a hurry even when you have a heavy load. I don’t know a lot about boats, but this doesn’t look wildly unlike a 21-foot boat, which can weigh almost 3,200 lbs (1,451 kg), which is a significant addition to the 4,370 lbs (1,982 kg) M5.

All of which should help impress upon you just how fast the M5 really is. Not only is it a spacious sedan, not only can it tear up the drag strip, it can do all that while towing a massive load. Of course, you shouldn’t do that, it’s silly and unsafe but as a demonstration of the potency of the car, it’s an impressive one.
