Lexus has confirmed that the LF-Z Electrified Concept will spawn a production model within the next 14 months.

The Japanese car manufacturer made the announcement during an ongoing press event in Texas. It comes a couple of months after the LF-Z Electrified Concept was shown to the world with no mention of it reaching the production line. Instead, Lexus simply stated that it previewed the automaker’s new design language.

The road-going version of the Lexus LF-Z Electrified will feature the same e-TNGA platform as the Toyota bZ4X Concept also shown to the world at the Texas press event. Lexus noted that the vehicle may not look exactly like the concept but will certainly have “similarities” to it.

Lexus says that it is “looking at all EV competitors” but didn’t specify what existing models the LF-Z Electrified will chase after.

As a concept, the LF-Z had a striking design with sharp LED headlights and taillights. It also featured an iteration of the brand’s spindle grille that has been tweaked for use by an electric vehicle, meaning the grille didn’t need to be functional. Lexus continued the radical design themes into the cabin with a digital gauge cluster, two additional high-definition screens, a yoke-style steering wheel, and intriguing front and rear seats.

The Lexus LF-Z Concept also featured the company’s DIRECT4 four-wheel driving force control technology that uses the vehicle’s electric motors to freely control the wheels. This system can also operate in front-, rear-, and all-wheel drive configurations.
